Urban Planning

Curitiba set off in its development as the Province of Paraná, becoming independent from São Paulo in 1853.

Curitiba, the capital, needed to adapt to the political and administrative changes that were being demanded by the Empire, for it to satisfy its newly gained position of independence. In order to do so, in 1855, the French engineer Pierre Taulois set foot in the province, having been contracted as the general inspector for measuring public lands, accompanied by a group of land surveyors, scribes and other workers required for his commission to begin carrying out its activities.
